The Grange

Conservation Society

Much of the Grange is within the Grange Conservation Area. The objectives of the founding group are to promote an interest in the character and quality of life in the area; to encourage a high standard of architecture and town planning and to react to proposals affecting the area’s development.

History

Mansfield Lodge & Forteviot House

Built to R.S. Lorimer's designs for the Lothian Health Service and formally opened on 17 July 1909, it was used to home very young children. With the generosity of Lord Forteviot and the Dewar family the house at no. 16 Hope Terrace was also purchased. It was opened on 23 January 1936 by Lord Forteviot.

A look back through time

The vibrant village atmosphere of Marchmont dates back to a time when the area was developed as a planned middle-class suburb by Sir George Warrender, the owner of Bruntsfield House and the surrounding estate (also known as the Warrender Park) in the middle of the 19th century.
